Spencer Street

Combining heritage with high-rise grandeur.

A historic printery inspired plans for a sympathetic tower design that meets the needs of a sophisticated 21st century clientele.

Architecture

Being big of scale doesn’t preclude the insertion of boutique values, as called for by this unique brief. A ground level retail precinct pays homage to Melbourne’s laneway culture, the glass pool creates a sense of awe and a statement installation by a local artist elevates the hotel’s profile.

Anodised steel is employed as the modern day materiality, complementing the original building’s red brick facade

“The overall tower design is based upon a massed shaping of the business directories the printing company was famous for, further entrenching the historical narrative of the site.”
