Forest Retret Residence

A quiet beacon.

A serene modernist retreat unfolds across the forested hillside, composed of two elongated volumes that cantilever lightly above the terrain. Expansive floor-to-ceiling glazing dissolves the boundary between interior and landscape, inviting panoramic views of rolling, tree-covered mountains.

Slim roof planes extend outward in crisp horizontal lines, emphasizing lightness and shelter while framing terraces beneath. Vertical timber cladding softens the minimalist concrete structure, adding warmth and texture to the refined geometry.

The home is carefully positioned to follow the contours of the site, appearing to float above dense greenery while maintaining an intimate connection to nature. Open-plan interiors create a continuous flow of space, where natural light and surrounding views become central elements of daily living.
At dusk, warm light spills gently through the expansive glass walls, creating an inviting contrast against the darkening forest.

The house becomes a quiet beacon, nestled within nature’s stillness, offering comfort, intimacy, and refuge. Set in a landscape reminiscent of the Coast Mountains near Whistler, the architecture feels perfectly suited to a secluded setting like Pemberton Valley, British Columbia, where modern design meets wilderness. The overall composition balances precision and restraint with a deep sensitivity to site, atmosphere, and the quiet beauty of the surrounding terrain.
